Church Walk – Newtyle to Kinpurney Hill
This is a circular walk that starts and finishes in the village of Newtyle just outside Dundee. Kinpurney Hill while of a fairly modest height (345m) gives great views over the Angus countryside. The hill itself is prominent in the landscape as it boasts a very obvious tower on its summit – an observatory that was built in 1774. There are also ruins of an Iron Age fort. There are reasonable – if muddy – paths for most of the route which makes use of a disused railway line for part of the return journey. Total distance: 7.3 miles. Time: c 4-5 hours.
